Non-GM Soy Conference 2025 highlights industry resilience and global collaboration

Frankfurt, Germany
5 November 2025

The Non-GM Soy Conference 2025, jointly organised by Donau Soja Organisation and ProTerra Foundation, successfully brought together around 88 participants from 21 countries, representing diverse perspectives across the global non-GMO industry. The event highlighted market updates, sustainability developments, and opportunities for international collaboration within the non-GMO sector.

Key Topics and Insights

The conference demonstrated the resilience and continued momentum of the non-GMO sector, even in challenging conditions. Discussions emphasised the importance of international cooperation, both geographically and across organisations.

Conference sessions highlighted key issues for the sector, including:
• Current trends and developments in the global non-GMO market
• Sustainability initiatives and best practices within non-GMO supply chains
• Opportunities and challenges for producers, traders, and industry stakeholders in responding to market and regulatory developments

Conference gave a strong sign of life for/from the non-GMO sector – despite challenging global conditions,” said Susanne Fromwald, Secretary General of Donau Soja Organisation. “In times of uncertainty, robust standards and transparent regional partnerships are the foundation of trust and stability. Certification schemes such as Donau Soja standards remain reliable partners in addressing sustainability challenges and managing supply chain risks. By strengthening collaboration, we can build resilient, sustainable and non-GMO soy value chains that contribute to food security, fair trade and the European Protein Transition.”

In his opening speech at the Non-GM Soy Conference 2025, Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, stated: “Despite the war, infrastructure challenges and logistical disruptions, Ukrainian farmers continue to invest, modernise and deliver. In 2024, Ukraine reached a record level of 2,6 million hectares of soybeans and over 6,2 million tonnes — the highest in our history. For 2025, we expect stability at around 2,4 million hectares with slightly higher yields. Ukraine remains a reliable and sustainable partner for the European Union in building a joint protein platform based on deforestation-free and non-GM soy. Annually, Ukraine exports around 3 million tonnes of soy to the EU and is steadily expanding its processing capacities. Over the past three years, more than 25 % of Ukrainian non-GM soy has been covered by the Donau Soja Protein Partnership Programme, ensuring verified sustainability, non-GM integrity, and reduced CO₂ emissions. This cooperation demonstrates how regional partnerships can strengthen Europe’s protein resilience and support a sustainable agricultural future.”
