In the Philippines, East-West Seed was recognised as Best Adopter at the S&T Innovations in Agri-Aqua (SINAG) Awards, which honours organisations that successfully bring publicly developed technologies to market. The recognition highlights East-West Seed’s role in the commercialisation and distribution of the Sinta papaya variety, developed by the University of the Philippines Los Baños. The variety contributed to the recovery of the Philippine papaya industry following severe production losses caused by papaya ringspot virus.
SINAG Awards was organised by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, the country’s national agency coordinating agricultural research and innovation.
Irene Sion, East-West Seed’s Global Head of Crop Production, and Sandra Orense, East-West Seed Philippines’ Head of Marketing, receive the Best Adopter award from DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr. and senior DOST officials during the SINAG Awards Ceremony in Manila.
Together, these recognitions reflect a consistent approach across regions: working in partnership, translating research into practice, and ensuring that seed innovation delivers lasting value in farmers’ fields.
