NPZ UK Green pea Carrington brings all round yield, agronomic and disease benefits to growers

United Kingdom
March 13, 2026

NPZ UK Green pea Carrington is a well-established variety on the PGRO Descriptive list (DL). It is a very high yielding green pea variety with a strong agronomic package and, importantly, heads the ratings on the list for Downy mildew resistance.

First recommended on the PGRO DL in 2022, Carrington continues to top the Downy mildew resistance ratings for Green Peas with the highest possible rating of ‘9’. This is added to high seed yield and a strong set of agronomic characters including early maturity, resistance to pea wilt – and good standability for good harvestability.

Grower comments are equally positive, with remarks made that Carrington is a reliable choice thanks to its Downy mildew resistance and that crops show excellent standing ability at harvest. The UK is an important Green pea market and Carrington’s protein content and grain size meets market needs. Its good colour, and colour retention makes it suitable for premium end markets and for human consumption.

Carrington is one of five NPZ UK Green pea varieties on the PGRO DL, emphasising the breeder’s strong portfolio in combining peas for growers. It shares its DL recommendation with PangeaButterfly and Bluetime. These were joined on the latest list by Bullet, a new high yielding variety,

Edina Kare, NPZ UK Pulse Breeder, ends by summing up her views on Carrington: “This is a variety with a very good standing ability, tall plant length, late flowering day, early maturity and very high Downy mildew resistance.”
