Canola Council of Canada (CCC) President Patti Miller today announced the appointment of Dr. Curtis Rempel as the new Vice-President of Crop Production.
“We are very fortunate to have an individual of Curtis’s caliber to lead our Crop Production team,” Miller said. “Not only does he have a deep understanding of all factors related to crop production, but he also has strong science background and close connections with the agriculture research community.”
Rempel comes to the CCC from the Richardson Centre Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals facility at the University of Manitoba (UofM) where he is A/Director. He has been both adjunct Professor at UofM and Research and Development Manager at the Richardson centre. Previously he was involved in marketing, business strategy and development with an international life science company.
“I am looking forward to being a part of the Canola Council team and to working with grower groups, the scientific community and other stakeholders toward the industry’s 2015 goals and beyond,” said Rempel.
The canola industry has set a target of 15 million tonnes of sustainable canola production and demand by 2015.
Rempel grew up on a farm near Landmark, MB. He holds two Master’s degrees in Business Administration (University of Guelph) and Plant Science (UofM), as well as a PhD in Environmental Biology and Biotechnology from University of Guelph.
The CCC is a full value chain organization representing the entire canola industry, including growers, seed developers, crushers and exporters. Canola is Canada’s most valuable crop, generating over $15.4 billion in economic activity each year and is responsible for 228,000 jobs.
