Physical Purity Workshop May 8-9
In this workshop you will learn about seed anatomy, morphology, biology, flower morphology, seed development and how these processes aid in seed identification.  Families covered will include:  Asteracea, Fabaceae, Poaceae and other crop and weed families with emphasis on common noxious weed seed identification.  Practical experience with: herbarium usage, purity testing aids, AOSA Rules, seed blower usage, and multiple units classification.  Hands on experience includes separating mixed seed packets identification of key seed ID characteristics.

Genetic Purity Workshop May 9-10
Gain experience by conducting herbicide bioassays, herbicide spray over, ELISA plate tests, lateral flow strip ELISA, Isoelectric Focusing (IEF) Electrophoresis, PCR and SNP DNA testing. Demonstrations of visual cultivar purity tests include: hilum purities, peroxidase soybean seed coat test, waxy and dent corn separations, ryegrass root florescence, soybean hypocotyl color and NaOH test for wheat.  Hands on experience for soybean hilum, waxy corn and other cultivar purity separation, as requested.

Seed Viability and Vigor May 10-11
Detailed information will be presented on using AOSA Rules and the Seedling Evaluation Handbook for viability evaluation of various species on several germination media types. Sand tests, rolled towel, blotter and petri dish methods will be demonstrated. Identification of microbes including field and storage fungi will be reviewed and demonstrated. Tetrazolium tests (TZ) will be conducted on several species and additional species of interest to you can be requested.  Valuable principles of vigor testing will be covered along with hands on experience with following tests:  tray cold, saturated cold, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity testing.

This three-part workshop is a great opportunity for participants to select training specific to their area of interest. The week is composed of three 1 ½ day training workshops.  While many species, tests and topics are covered, we also cover specific species and tests per your request. 
 
Both new and experienced seed technologists will benefit from these workshops.  It is also a great preparation course for candidates who are planning to take the registered or certified seed technologist test.  This is a classroom style workshop with a mix of lectures on principles along with hands on experience.
 
$150 per person for one workshop or $350 per person for full week.  Lunch and all classroom materials included.

Seed Tech Week takes place at SoDak Labs in Brookings, South Dakota
 
Limited to 12 participants per workshop session.  Please register before Wednesday, May 3rd.
