About the Technical Seed Sales Manager Role
The Technical Sales Manager will lead regional sales and market development activities for the flower seed portfolio, combining technical expertise with strong customer and distributor engagement. This role focuses on developing and executing market initiatives, strengthening key relationships, and coordinating with internal teams to support long-term growth. Working in partnership with the Sales Manager, this position contributes to sales planning, market development, and key account strategy while providing leadership across assigned territories.
Essential Job Duties and Key Responsibilities
Sales & Account Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with growers, distributors, and brokers.
- Identify new business opportunities and expand market presence within assigned territories.
- Manage a portfolio of key accounts, ensuring consistent growth and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the Sales Manager to execute annual sales plans and targets.
Market Development & Intelligence
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences to inform sales strategies.
- Provide feedback to product development teams on customer needs and product performance.
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and customer meetings.
On-site Events, Facilities & Contract Labor Oversight
- Lead planning and execution of key on-site events, including CAST and Cut Flower Open Day, in coordination with internal teams and external partners.
- Oversee day-to-day coordination of greenhouse facilities to support trials, customer visits, and market development activities.
- Direct and oversee contract labor supporting greenhouse activities, ensuring work is aligned with trial needs, event preparation, and operational priorities.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, and readiness for on-site activities.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with Product Development, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, and forecasts.
- Prepare regular sales and market reports for management.
Technical Expertise & Support
- Serve as the primary technical resource for customers, providing in-depth product knowledge and recommendations.
- Conduct on-site visits to assess customer needs, troubleshoot issues, and provide product/application training.
- Translate technical product features into customer benefits that drive sales.
- Support field trials and demonstrations, interpreting results and communicating findings to customers and internal teams.
Skills, Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of sales experience in horticulture, agriculture, or seed/plant genetics industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of ornamental crops, greenhouse production, and/or cut flower markets.
- Excellent communication skills through oral presentations and written reports in English and Spanish.
- Spanish speaking a must.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Teams.
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction while adapting to changing priorities.
- Express confidence and professionalism with cross functional teams, both internally and externally.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize under pressure and meet timelines.
- Ability to work in a rapid paced environment, prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and ensure that work is accomplished in a timely fashion.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with seed dealers and growers within the assigned territory.
- Proven experience in people management, team leadership, or supervisory roles.
- Be insurable with a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel within North America and internationally.
