Nufarm welcomes Australian Federal Government funding for sustainable crop protection

Australia
August 23, 2019

Nufarm welcomes the Australian Federal Government funding to create a new Australian Research Hub for Sustainable Crop Protection. The Hub was one of four new research hubs announced by the Federal Government on 18 August 2019 and will focus on the development and commercialisation of an innovative biological fungicide as an alternative to existing chemical products. The hub will be led by Professor Neena Mitter at the University of Queensland.

Nufarm Group Executive Portfolio Solutions, Niels Porksen, congratulated Professor Mitter and the research team at the University of Queensland on this recognition of the quality of their research and its potential to advance productivity and environmental outcomes for farmers around the world. “This is a fantastic example of how research institutions like the University of Queensland are partnering with industry bodies and commercial organisations like Nufarm to address the challenge of increasing yields to feed a growing global population while minimising the impact of agriculture on the environment.

“We’re proud to be supporting the University of Queensland in the development and commercialisation of this exciting new technology. Their research has provided a breakthrough in how we can help plants protect themselves from fungal infections that can severely impact plant health, yields and the quality of our foods”.
