What is in the J All Bent mixture?

Brown Top Bentgrass (Agrostis capillaris) has been a popular choice for golf greens for many years due to its fine texture and excellent putting qualities. In recent years, Johnsons Seeds has introduced a new mixture called J AllBent, which includes a blend of three high-performing brown top bentgrass cultivars: Arrowtown, Manor, and Cleek.

Arrowtown is a relatively new cultivar of brown top bent grass that has shown exceptional density and fineness in trials. It was bred from plants collected from greens at Arrowtown Golf Club in New Zealand, and its exceptional performance has made it a popular choice for creating smooth, fast-putting surfaces.

Manor is a more traditional cultivar of brown top bentgrass that has been a popular choice for golf greens for many years. It has exceptional shoot density and high tolerance to close mown wear, helping to prevent the spread of Poa annua. Manor also has excellent tolerance to fusarium and is an ideal alternative to fescue for inland courses wishing to reduce Poa annua and improve green speed.

Cleek is an exciting new cultivar of brown top bentgrass that has been specifically bred for use on golf courses. It has a wide genetic background and has shown excellent performance in Scandinavian trials, with good resistance to a range of diseases combined with density and fineness. Cleek also maintains a good winter colour and hardiness, making it an excellent choice for greens that experience heavy traffic.

By combining these three high-performing cultivars, Johnsons Sports Seeds has created a mixture that provides excellent playing qualities and long-lasting durability, along with the best trial-proven Michrodocium resistance which helps to balance the budget by reducing input costs and keeps players smiling with beautiful greens.

J AllBent is a great choice for any course looking to achieve the perfect sustainable putting surface, whether creating a new green or renovating an existing one. The success of these cultivars is a testament to the continued innovation and improvement in turfgrass breeding from DLF & Johnsons Seeds to provide the best grass seed for golf courses.
