United Kingdom - Disease tolerance and sustainability are hot topics for Barenbrug at BTME 2026

Barenbrug invites delegates to their Clubhouse - Stand 136 in Hall 1 (new location) to learn more about new product launches and ground-breaking research and development in their industry-leading SPORT RANGE for 2026.

BTME will see the unveiling of new formulations, including SGT All Hard (Sustainable Grass Technology), Barenbrug’s newest Sport Range product, launched during the summer of 2025 in response to drought conditions.  The new formulation contains no less than four hard fescue varieties for overseeding links and heathland fairways affected by drought and/or Dollar Spot pressure.  Table-topping cultivar Barlegant features in SGT All Hard and market-leading SGT Fine Fescue again in 2026.

On the subject of table-toppers in the BSPB/STRI Turfgrass Seed Booklet, Chewings fescue Nightclub makes its eagerly-awaited debut in the Sport Range, featuring in Fescue and SGT Fine Fescue in 2026.  With Barnoustie slender, SGT Fine Fescue boasts three table-topping cultivars in a single mixture!

Part of the SGT promise from Barenbrug is disease tolerance.  To learn more on this, delegates are welcome to attend free-of-charge seminar as part of BIGGA’s Continue to Learn programme.  On Tuesday 20th in Seminar Hall 3 at noon, Stephane Charrier (head of amenity breeding in Europe) and plant pathologist Juan Castillo will discuss the role plant breeding can play in battling turfgrass disease issues in the UK and beyond.

On the ryegrass front, 2026 sees the best Extreme formulation yet, and all Ultrafine products retain their position as class leaders with Barpersie and Barolympic featuring strongly.  For any winter sport turf managers, Elite Sport sees a new signing to its starting line-up and Elite Defence continues to showcase the role of plant genetics in addressing turf diseases such as Grey Leaf Spot.
