On Thursday 26 March 2026, Sherif HAMDY, head of the Imaging Team at the GEVES Physical Analysis Laboratory, successfully defended his thesis at Polytech Angers (University of Angers).

Entitled “Contributions to computer vision and machine learning for safe, high-throughput, and non-destructive seed quality analysis and phenotyping”, the presentation focused on the use of computer vision and machine learning to develop innovative, automated and non-destructive methods for the high-throughput assessment of seed quality, thereby improving the reliability and rapidity of analyses.

Sherif joined the Physical Analysis Laboratory in 2018. Since then, he has been applying his expertise in artificial intelligence and image processing to the laboratory’s projects.

This doctoral research has resulted in the publication of a book chapter and three scientific publications. These are available on the GEVES website.

We would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Sherif on this significant achievement, as well as on his commitment, perseverance and the quality of his work, which has a tangible impact within the physical analysis laboratory.

His expertise is a real asset to all our activities at GEVES.
