We are pleased to announce a £5 million investment to expand grass seed processing capacity at our Lincoln site. This will fund purpose-built facilities housing new seed intake infrastructure, more than doubling seed cleaning and processing capacity.
Germinal produces 50% of the grass seed grown in the UK, with approximately one-third of national production processed at our Lincoln site. Construction is expected to be completed by March 2027, with the new cleaning and processing plant installed ahead of next year’s harvest.
Benefits will include improved quality assurance, reduced bottlenecks during peak periods, and faster turnaround times for customers across the UK and Ireland. The upgrade also brings important operational improvements to create a safer working environment. Greater dust control will enable indoor seed handling with no downtime due to weather-related disruption.
To support our ongoing carbon reduction strategy, a new 200kw solar PV micro-generation system will boost seed processing capacity and seed cleaning activity during daylight hours by harnessing more renewable power generated on-site.

A better service for our customers
Germinal GB Operations Manager Matt Stevens explains: “This investment is about strengthening every stage of our intake, cleaning and production operations. In doubling our cleaning capacity, we are not only increasing efficiency but also improving the consistency and quality of what we can deliver to our customers.”
“It allows us to reduce production pressures during periods of peak demand and helps us respond more quickly to customers. Ultimately, this means a better service for our customers and a stronger, more resilient seed processing operation at Lincoln serving our entire business across the United Kingdom and Ireland.”
