Mycogen Seeds adds two new sunflower hybrids to its lineup for 2012

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
July 12, 2011

Mycogen Seeds is releasing two new sunflower hybrids for the 2012 growing season, including a confection hybrid with CLEARFIELD® herbicide technology. These hybrids were only available in limited quantities in 2011.

“By combining leading germplasm with disease resistance and herbicide tolerance traits, Mycogen Seeds continues to provide growers with sunflower hybrids that offer higher premium potential,” says John Kalthoff, oil seeds marketing specialist, Mycogen Seeds. “MYCOGEN brand sunflowers are proven to provide higher oil content and more pounds per acre than the competition.”

New sunflower hybrids

  • 8N421CLDM is a high-yielding NuSun® hybrid featuring CLEARFIELD herbicide technology for expanded weed control options. The medium full-season hybrid is resistant to the most prevalent races of downy mildew and offers very good test weights and oil content. 8N421CLDM is a strong choice for NuSun oil and bird food markets.
  • 8C410CL is Mycogen Seeds’ first confection hybrid to offer CLEARFIELD herbicide technology. Adapted to the High Plains, Texas and the Dakotas, the full-season hybrid produces a high percentage of seeds that remain on the 22/64 screen and is in high demand with confection processors.

Developed from leading germplasm

Sunflower hybrids from Mycogen Seeds are developed from leading germplasm for multiple market segments to offer market versatility.

“MYCOGEN brand sunflower hybrids have the largest, most advanced U.S. sunflower breeding program behind them,” Kalthoff says. “Growers can trust us to provide excellent sunflower seed.”
