Including lettuce as a crop in our range is a project that Bejo takes very seriously. This commitment shows in all the activities Bejo has started and the energy and resources we are investing in research.

Agrisemen, our recently acquired partner, has worked well on her breeding program over the past 15 years. As a result, the current assortment in lettuce meets the disease resistance requirements for Western Europe extremely well.
Along with continuing this research, Bejo also set up a number of projects in marker development as well as creating new tests for disease resistance, especially those that are relevant in other climate conditions. This work is being done at the Bejo Research Center in Warmenhuizen, in some cases together with external partners. Naturally, tests will also take place on trial fields in other parts of the world.
New expertise is also being added in the form of training courses and new personnel. The research section recently hired an extra phytopathologist and a researcher in the field of marker technology and genomics. Tom Scheurwater and Laurens Kamp currently form the heart of the lettuce breeding team, and even more breeding staff will strengthen the team in the near future.
We are moving towards the future with great confidence, with a fresh look at lettuce.
Forse research activiteit in sla bij Bejo
De introductie van het gewas sla in het assortiment van Bejo wordt gestaag maar serieus aangepakt. Dit blijkt zeker uit de vele activiteiten en investeringen die gedaan worden op het gebied van research.
Overgenomen partner Agrisemen heeft de afgelopen 15 jaar zeer gedegen aan haar verdelingsprogramma gewerkt en het huidige assortiment voldoet uitermate goed aan de ziekteresistentie eisen voor West-Europa.
Diverse onderzoeksprojecten zijn nu ook opgestart op het gebied van merkerontwikkeling en ook van toetsontwikkeling voor ziekten die met name ook voor andere klimatologische omstandigheden relevant zijn. De activiteiten hiervoor vinden plaats vanuit het Bejo Research Center in Warmenhuizen, soms ook in samenwerking met externe partners en uiteraard moet er ook veel getoetst worden op proefvelden op diverse plekken in de wereld.
Opleiding en uitbreiding van ons personeel krijgt volop aandacht. Afdeling Research is onlangs nog versterkt met een extra fytopatholoog en een nieuwe onderzoeker op het gebied van Merkertechnologie & Genomics. Tom Scheurwater en Laurens Kamp vormen momenteel de kern van het sla veredelingsteam en zullen in de nabije toekomst ook extra versterking nodig hebben.
Met een frisse blik op sla zien we met vertrouwen de toekomst in sla tegemoet.
