United Kingdom - PGRO announces dealine for 2017 Bean Yield Challende as 2016 winnre receives award at PGRO/Syngenta Pulse Roadshows

United Kingdom
February 17, 2017

Speaking at the York venue of the PGRO/Syngenta Pulse Roadshows, Roger Vickers, PGRO Chief Executive, announced the deadline for the 2017 Bean Yield Challenge to coincide with the presentation of the 2016 award to Yorkshire grower Richard Wainwright (pictured).

Richard Wainwright of Birch Farm, Stonegrave, North Yorkshire, 2016 winner of the PGRO Bean Yield Challenge, pictured with his prize trophy and a refreshing bonus.

“The PGRO Bean Yield Challenge is open to UK-based growers of any commercial UK-grown grain crop. A prize trophy is awarded annually for the highest verified yield, while the absolute Yield Challenge winner will be the first grower to achieve a verified yield of 10t/ha or more.

“Even though 2016 was not a banner year for yields, in contrast to the excellent 2015 season, many growers achieved highly profitable results from their beans - with Richard Wainwright, who farms at Stonegrave in North Yorkshire, harvesting 6.81t/ha from his spring bean crop of Fanfare.

“With drilling of the 2017 spring crop well under way, the challenge can be taken up again by both winter and spring bean growers. The deadline for this year is 31st July and the rules of the competition and the downloadable entry form can be found on our web site.

"Richard’s excellent yield sets a high standard for this year’s challenge and we look forward to even more growers putting their crops forward this year,” adds Mr Vickers.
