Mycogen Seeds introduces new 2011 sunflower hybrids

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
August 16, 2010

Two new sunflower hybrids from Mycogen Seeds will debut for the 2011 planting season. The new high-performing hybrids feature differentiated sunflower technology, including herbicide and disease tolerance traits, and deliver the characteristics processors demand.

“Mycogen Seeds is pleased to offer the next generation of industry-leading sunflower hybrids,” says John Kalthoff, oil seeds marketing specialist, Mycogen Seeds. “These new hybrids will give growers more options for achieving higher premiums in multiple market segments.”

New sunflower hybrids

  • 8N421CLDM is a medium full-season, high-yielding hybrid with genetic resistance to the most prevalent races of downy mildew (DM). In addition, this medium-tall hybrid features CLEARFIELD® herbicide technology and is well suited for the NuSun® oil and bird food market segments. 8N421CLDM offers very high oil content and test weight.
  • 8H449CLDM provides extended weed control options with the built-in CLEARFIELD trait. It also offers genetic resistance to the most prevalent DM races. This mid- to late-season hybrid yields excellent oil content with very high oleic levels and good test weight.

Proven results

Mycogen Seeds has the largest and most advanced global sunflower breeding program in the industry, helping to bring new sunflower technologies to market faster.

“MYCOGEN® brand hybrids are proven through extensive field trials to provide greater yield and oil content for higher premium potential,” Kalthoff says. “Growers can have confidence in sunflower hybrids from Mycogen Seeds, which set the standard in all market segments.”

With a total of 20 sunflower hybrids, the Mycogen Seeds portfolio features the widest range of hybrids with differentiated agronomic characteristics, stacked traits, top yield and excellent oil content across all market segments, including NuSun, Omega-9 Oils, confection, bird food and dehull.
